Lumbar Fusion

Lumbar Fusion is a minimally invasive procedure that relieves chronic low back pain by repairing the damaged spine disc and vertebra.

There are different kinds of spine conditions remedied by fusion surgery, including:

-Arthritis
-Chronic Back Pain
-Degenerative Disc Disease
-Herniated Disc
-Sciatica

What Happens During the Surgery?

The Fusion of the vertebra involves using bone grafting material to build a vertebra joint. Then, two vertebrae are joined together by the bone graft to form one joint vertebra to eliminate pain caused by the herniated or worn-out disc.

Before surgery, Dr. Anderson will describe the bone grafting process and the size of the vertebra needing Fusion. He will also explain the approach he will use to conduct the Fusion. There are multiple variations of the surgery, including transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF), posterior lumbar interbody fusion, and others.

How Long Will It Take To Recover?

After the procedure, patients may experience soreness at their incision line for up to several weeks. Most patients can go home with family or friends on the day of surgery or within 24 hours. Returning to work may take up to 2 to 3 weeks following surgery.
