Brain Tumors

What Is A Brain Tumor?

A brain tumor is a mass of abnormal tissue that forms in the brain. It may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Brain tumors can occur at any age but most commonly affect children and older adults.

Symptoms may include headaches, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, weakness in one side of the face or body, and slow or slurred speech.

During brain tumor surgery, Dr. Anderson will remove as much of the tumor as possible while preserving as much healthy brain tissue as possible. Brain surgery aims to remove all or most of the tumor while leaving the patient with minimal risk for complications and side effects. Proper planning of removing the tumor with the patient’s team includes an oncologist, radiologist, general surgeon, and others specialized in cancer.
