Cervical & Lumbar Arthroplasty

Arthroplasty is a common spinal surgery involving the placement of an artificial disc into the intervertebral space once the natural disc is removed or a discectomy is performed. Dr. Anderson is Fellowship trained to perform these surgeries minimally invasively and often outpatient.

The surgery, performed by Brian Anderson, MD, and the Summit Brain, Spine, Orthopedic team, is an option for patients with chronic neck and back pain due to a degenerative, herniated, or a ruptured spinal disc.

Many different kinds of spine problems can lead to cervical or lumbar arthroplasty, including:

-Arthritis
-Degenerative disc disease
-Herniated discs (herniated intervertebral discs)
-Spondylolisthesis

What Happens During the Surgery?

During surgery, Dr. Anderson places an artificial disc between two vertebrae. Screws and rods may be used to secure the positioning.

How Long Will It Take Me To Recover?

You should be able to return home within a few hours after cervical disk replacement surgery. Still, it could take up to two weeks to recover enough for regular activities like driving or working out at the gym again.
